Paris

A 'before' picture of Paris This is the story of Paris, a pure bred French Poodle

Pet Action in Bloemfontein rescued her about 3 months ago. She was found by the side of the road near a small holding in Bloemfontein.

At first the man who found her thought she was a little lamb, only to find that she was indeed a dog. He called his employer who then contacted Pet Action to come and pick up Paris. We were so shocked to see a dog in such a bad condition. Her coat was totally detangled and at some places on her body she didn't have any fur at all. The vet confirmed that she had a serious skin condition called Mange.

We also suspected that Paris had puppies because her breasts were quite swollen and full of milk. We searched all over for the puppies, but couldn't find any.

We had to make a difficult decision. Should we rather consider euthanizing Paris or should we give her a second chance? She has such a lovely nature so we decided to give her a fair chance. She was taken to Van Niekerkshof Kennels in Bloemfontein and Elbie, the owner of the kennels started by shaving Paris to get rid of the detangled coat. After she was groomed, we were shocked to see how thin Paris really was and just how bad her skin condition seemed to be. She also had several sores on her body.

An 'after' picture of Paris It took Paris 2 months to recover from the Mange and to look like a French Poodle again. Luckily Daniel, a French Poodle lover, offered to adopt Paris as soon as she had recovered. Everything went well and Paris is now living with Daniel and his other 3 French Poodles. She has settled in just fine.

The only problem we are facing is that Paris has now developed some lumps in her breasts. At first she had only one lump, but now there are 6. They are not cancerous at this stage, but the vet said we should have her breasts removed (a mastectomy) to play it safe. Paris' owner is not in a position to pay for the whole operation and Pet Action also do not have the funds available to pay for the operation at this stage.

The operation will cost approximately R3 000. Can you help Paris? If you want to make a donation towards her operation, please use the reference 'Paris'.

Update:
Paris had her operation. Four of her breasts were removed (mastectomy). Six lumps in total were found. The biopsy, fortunately, showed that the lumps were not cancerous. The vet's advise was to have them removed anyway because they could become cancerous at a later stage. The operation was a big success and Paris is her old self again. Thanks to each and everyone who contributed towards the cost of her operation and also for the emails and phone calls we received regarding her progress. We could not have done it without your support!
