Spaying/Neutering (Sterilisation)

This is something people are very ignorant about. We quite often hear people say "I simply cannot afford to sterilise my pet, it's too expensive". Yes, it's true. To sterilise your pet has become expensive, but we feel if you care enough for you pet, you wouldn't mind paying the cost.

We often see people buying luxury items for themselves or for their children, but when it comes to their pets, they simply are not prepared to pay vet costs (sterilisation, annual vaccinations, etc).

If you are not prepared to take responsibility for your pet, maybe you should not have one. Just like a child, a pet comes with responsibilities. We do not hesitate to pay when our child gets sick or needs an operation (irrespective of the cost) and so it should be with our pets as well. It's our responsibility.

You will pay this once-off amount only once for the sterilisation of your pet. Bear in mind that sterilisation has a lot of advantages. (Please read the document Benefits of spaying/neutering your puppy bitch/male dog).

If you save just R100 a month, you will have enough money to pay for your puppy or kitten's sterilisation/castration when the time comes. Your pet can be sterilised at the age of 6 months.

The offspring of one female dog in just 7 years is 4 372. Where does one find homes for 4 372 dogs? As a result of irresponsible/backyard breeding, approximately 1 million dogs and cats are euthanized (put down) by Animal Shelters in South Africa each year.

Now, ask yourself, "Am I contributing to this tragedy"? If your answer is yes, it is time to seriously consider sterilising your pet!

Did you know? In order to give all the homeless dogs in South Africa a home, each household must have about 18 dogs? Who can afford to take care of 18 dogs?
